Michigan Cycling FAQ
Q: Where do I store my bike on campus?
A: You should store it in your dorm room or house if possible, and keep it locked with a heavy-duty U-lock! Storing a bike outside subjects it to harsh weather conditions and theft. If you're bringing a nice bike to campus for racing or fitness riding, consider getting a "beater" bike for commuting.
Q: Is it practical to commute between North and Central Campus?
A: Yes - and it's often faster than the bus! Even in the winter, the city and University clear all the paths immediately after a snow fall. And if the conditions are really bad, then you can just leave your bike locked and take the bus instead. (There's even covered bicycle parking on the south side of Angell Hall which works well when it's snowing or raining.)
Q: What's a good bike shop near campus?
A: Wheels in Motion (Club members get a 20% discount!)
Q: What are some good road bike routes around Ann Arbor?
A: Check out the Michigan Cycling Ride Guide and subscribe to the e-mail list (on the right column) to get notified of local group rides.
Q: What are some good mountain bike trails in and around Ann Arbor?
A: The mountain bike trail in Ann Arbor is called the "Local Loop." It consists of a bunch of trails in different parks around Ann Arbor. If you are new to the area, you will need to ride with someone who knows the loop. Feel free to send an e-mail out to the e-mail list (subscribe on the right), join one of the many local loop rides that others post to the list, or contact an officer to get a guided ride. For other trails within driving distance of Ann Arbor, check out the Michigan Cycling Ride Guide and the MMBA Trail Guide.
