REMINDER: Worst Day of the Year Ride Sunday

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

Our sponsor shop, Wheels In Motion, will be hosting their annual Worst Day of the Year Ride on Sunday, January 25 at 1 pm.  The ride leaves from Kerrytown Farmers Market and ends at Arbor Brewing Company.

They would love as much participation from our team as possible.  This ride is 40 mile ride and is a good time to suffer in the cold weather with other crazy people.

If you want to ride, but are not quite into doing 40 miles that day, other routes and times are listed at http://www.wheelsinmotion.us/for/routes.

We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Spring Break/ Road Season Meeting

Friday, January 9th, 2009

Our first meeting of the semester is on Tuesday, January 20th from 6PM Michigan time to
approximately 7PM in a first floor classroom in Mason Hall (not ground floor).  We will
discuss spring break and road racing.

If you want to attend spring break in Georgia, you *must* attend this meeting.  This
meeting will also serve as the informational session for the upcoming road racing season.

We will divide the meeting into two portions:

6:00-6:40 - Road Season Informational Session and Questions
6:40-7:00 - Spring Break Informational Session, Questions, and Deposit Collection

For those wanting to attend our Spring Break training camp in Georgia, you must be a full
time student and Michigan Cycling Club member.  Please bring $50 for a non-refundable
spring break deposit. (So $90 total if you haven’t yet paid dues to become a club
member).  The approximate cost of the trip is $250 which includes transportation and
lodging for the entire trip.  (The $50 deposit gets subtracted from the $250, so you
would owe $200 in February.)  Food is extra, but shouldn’t cost more than $50 for the
week since we get it all from the grocery store.

Our Spring Break training camp is open to everyone, regardless of ability or experience.
We only have 32 slots available, so make sure you don’t miss the meeting (or contact Brendan (bensonb)
if you absolutely cannot attend the meeting).  We’re in a new cabin this year, so 24
people will get beds, and 8 others will get pull out couches or air mattresses.

This is a rebuilding year for our women’s team (after a national championship last year)
and it would be great to use spring break as a starting point for further growth and
development, so we would like to see more women on spring break this year.

Fall 2008 Mass Meeting Recap

Monday, September 8th, 2008

There are two files from the mass meeting:

The main talking points from the meeting were:

  • We have group rides every day, and anyone can join them - check out the riding schedule on the training page at www.mcycling.org/training.php
  • Other rides are on the e-mail list.  (The e-mail list is the club’s main form of communication).
  • If you’re interested in racing MTB, act now because the season is starting to pick up.  E-mail Mike Dodd (doddm@umich.edu) to let him know you want to race the Michigan State races this weekend.
  • The road season starts in the Spring and the schedule will be posted on mwccc.org when it becomes available (February).
  • We go to Helen, Georgia for Spring Break.  There are 24 spots available for the trip this year, with priority going to those who plan on racing during the road season.
  • Cycling is a beginner-friendly sport.  Almost nobody has raced before coming to college.  Collegiate cycling is geared toward novice riders.  If you’ve never raced before, now is the time to consider it.
